Free VoIP/PSTN termination

Thursday, January 6th, 2005

I know some of you have been waiting for the next step from VoIP User, well here it is….

Again it’s been a while but we’ve been busy, very busy, launching our new service.

I’ll try to explain it shortly here but for the full article just visit our forum post on free VoIP/PSTN termination.

When we did our number control panel where people could get free UK PSTN numbers to be forwarded to any SIP/IAX address or different landline destinations all over the world, we used part of the income on the numbers to finance the service, but we also saved up the revenue into one big community ‘pot’. This pot will now be given out to our users to make outbound calls.

Main purpose of this is for people to try VoIP freely without any obligations.

Of course we had to implement some limitation as to avoid abuse. That’s why we’ve chosen to make available only destinations that are <2.5p. This accounts for most landlines in Europe, USA & Canada, but a full list of possible destinations will be published on a later date.

Further more there will be monitoring based on income generated by users, i.e. people using our UK inbound numbers v.s. money spent on the outbound. Abuser will be lose their outbound access if we feel this is necessary to prevent abuse.

As I stated before this is a free community service which is relaying on community members them selves to support this service. Dean and I don’t get any income generated from the numbers on the website, so this service needs to be self supporting else if it runs dry no-one will have access anymore.

We hope everyone will contribute his/her part to be able to make this service worthwhile running.

And before i forget a happy new year to you all and all the best for 2005.

Also when next doing your (online) banking, please don’t forget all the people in Asia that have currently lost basically their whole lives. Any contribution how little it may be does matter.
