IP everywhere!

Found a nice question in one of the sheets of the PowerPoint presentation from Carl Ford, about his talk to the Rural Independent Competitive Alliance.

The presentation is linked from his blog entry.

Question: Ask yourself what will communications be like if it works like the web or e-mail.

This is definately the goal we should all try to reach.

It all fits in really nicely. you have one device (mobile alike) which by means of a (wireless) connection provider gives you allways-on IP(v6) connectivity and supports your Personal Area Network where ever you are.

And as soon as you get home or in the office your pda, ip phone etc just switch that network.

O, maybe it looks futuristic but even the following idea is allready possible. While in the office you request the status of your fridge to see what’s in there (even easier if in the future when things are tagged with RFID’s).

Then on how to decided what is still missing for tonight’s dinner, we could feed the system a list of ingredients or maybe just link to a recipe we’ve seen.
The you could get the thing needed from a Collect&Go service when driving back home.

I know you could have it delivered, but no point in delivering anything when your not home now is there…

The point is the only thing that we actually need to communicate (apart from the right hard- and software) is IP as it offers the transport for all our communication needs, be it voice, video, IM, Workspace(s) etc. etc.
